Solidarity with Walmart Workers

November 12, 2013

The Transit Riders Union stands in solidarity with Walmart workers who went on strike today at the Federal Way Walmart. Here’s our letter of support:

Dear Walmart Workers and Members of OURWalmart:

On behalf of the Transit Riders Union, we are writing to express our solidarity with you and with all Walmart workers in your struggle to win respect, dignity, a living wage, and improvements to working conditions at Walmart.

We believe that Walmart should be ashamed of their bullying and retaliation against workers exercising their rights to speak freely and to organize freely. We admire your courage and determination in standing up to the world’s biggest corporation and the symbol of the worst abuses of global capitalism. Your persistent efforts will inspire others to stand up too, and together we will be unstoppable.

The Transit Riders Union is an independent democratic organization of transit riders, fighting to save our bus service from massive cuts and to make public transit affordable and reliable for everyone in King County. We believe in the principle of solidarity: working and poor people everywhere must stand together to build a movement that can improve our lives and create a just society for ourselves and for future generations.

We stand with you, never give up!

In solidarity,

Members of the Transit Riders Union
