RESOLUTION #15 to Support UNITE HERE Local 8’s boycott of the Hyatt at Olive 8 and the Grand Hyatt Seattle
WHEREAS: UNITE HERE Local 8 has called for a boycott of the Hyatt at Olive 8 and the Grand Hyatt Seattle, denouncing difficult working conditions, unaffordable health care, and use of subcontracted workers and;
WHEREAS: Local owner, Richard Hedreen, has refused to agree to a fair process for workers to form a union free of management intimidation—a process backed by Hyatt Hotels in a recent national agreement and;
WHEREAS: UNITE HERE Local 8 has asked the Transit Riders Union to sign on to their boycott pledge and;
WHEREAS: UNITE HERE Local 8 has supported the Transit Riders Union by joining our low income fare coalition and giving us advice in planning our demonstrations and;
WHEREAS: It is important that workers everywhere show solidarity in struggle because an injury to one is an injury to all;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Transit Riders Union does
publicly endorse the efforts of these workers and call on other people of conscience to join us in supporting these workers in their struggle and that we take the boycott pledge as follows:
- We won’t eat, sleep, or meet at the Hyatt at Olive 8 or the Grand Hyatt Seattle.
- We won’t book any new events at the boycotted hotels until these brave workers win.
- We will post our endorsement and commitment of support to UNITE HERE Local 8 on our web site.
- We look forward to working with UNITE HERE Local 8 in collaboration and solidarity for our mutual benefit in the future.
