🤝 Joining via Volunteer Contribution (In Lieu of Dues)
TRU is built on solidarity, and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. If paying monetary dues would currently result in a hardship, you can fulfill your membership contribution by agreeing to give at least 20 hours of volunteer labor per year to TRU activities (such as outreach tabling, campaign actions, or work groups) until you’re able to afford to pay dues.
Because our grassroots work relies on active, dedicated coordination, we ask that members choosing this path apply directly by emailing our Treasurer at treasurer@transitriders.org.
In your email, please include:
- Your Contact Information: First and last name, email address, mailing address, and phone number.
- A brief response to these onboarding questions:
- Are there specific areas of interest or skills that you bring to the Transit Riders Union?
- Do you have any special requirements or needs?
- Do you belong to any other organizations or groups that could be potential allies to TRU?
- Is there anything else you want us to know?
Once received, our Treasurer will get your account set up, and your responses will be shared with our Outreach team to help get you plugged into our current campaigns! If/when you are able to start paying dues, please email our Treasurer at treasurer@transitriders.org to initiate the payment. Otherwise, we’ll check with you at the start of the next calendar year.
